AXIOM BRASS SUMMER ACADEMY

June 24 - 30, 2010

The Axiom Brass and the Music Institute of Chicago are pleased to announce the 2010 Axiom Brass Summer Academy! Located on MIC’s Lake Forest Campus, the Academy is open to students age 11-18 on all brass instruments including trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone (euphonium), and tuba. Students will work closely with the members of the Axiom Brass in improving breathing techniques, creating beautiful tone, improving rhythm, forming good practice habits, and enhancing performance skills. Students will have the opportunity to focus on skills essential to winning All-State auditions, improving solo recitals, and getting ahead in preparation for college auditions. For those who wish to work individually with Axiom Brass members, private instruction is available upon request for an additional fee.

Music skills are addressed daily in unique classes aimed at breaking down brass playing into a simple and manageable system. Students will then put these skills into action in student chamber groups where they will perform in a student recital. Classes will run from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm every day with the final Saturday being dedicated to student performances. Here is a sample of the daily academy schedule:

1:00 – Brass Sectionals 2:00 – Chamber Group Rehearsal 3:00-3:30 – Break 3:30 – Masterclass 4:30 – Brass Choir
